History:

The Melbourne Shwetambar Jain Sangh was established in 2007 in response to the growing Jain population in Victoria and the desire to create a permanent spiritual home for the community. What began as a small group of families gathering for religious observances gradually developed into an organised community committed to establishing a dedicated Jain centre.

Over the years, the Sangh has grown significantly, becoming an important hub for worship, education and community engagement. One of its most significant achievements has been the development of a traditional Jain temple in Moorabbin. Designed in accordance with centuries-old Jain architectural traditions, the temple incorporates intricately carved marble elements crafted in India and assembled in Melbourne.

The establishment of the temple represents the dedication, generosity and vision of Melbourne’s Jain community. Today, it stands as a symbol of the enduring presence of Jainism in Victoria and contributes to the rich religious and cultural diversity of the state.

Faith Leader: Nitin Doshi

Nitin Doshi is the President of the Melbourne Shwetambar Jain Sangh (MSJS) and a leading figure in Victoria’s Jain community. Since the establishment of MSJS in 2007, he has played an important role in strengthening the community and promoting the teachings and values of Jainism in Melbourne.

Nitin has been instrumental in the development of the Moorabbin Jain Temple, helping to bring together community members, volunteers and supporters to create a permanent spiritual home for Jains in Victoria. His leadership has helped transform a long-held vision into a significant place of worship and community gathering.

Guided by the Jain principles of non-violence, compassion and service, Nitin is committed to preserving Jain traditions while fostering understanding and engagement within Victoria’s diverse multifaith community.
