Sacred Victoria is a photography project that will document 100 places of worship across Victoria, capturing both the spaces themselves and the faith leaders who guide them. The project celebrates the rich religious and cultural diversity of our state, showcasing the traditions, rituals, and communities that make Victoria unique. By combining architectural and environmental photography with intimate portraits of faith leaders, Sacred Victoria will offer a visually compelling exploration of spirituality, community, and cultural heritage.
Artistic and Social Objectives:
Celebrating Diversity: The project will represent a wide spectrum of religious denominations and cultural backgrounds, highlighting Victoria’s vibrant multicultural and multi-faith landscape.
Promoting Women and Indigenous Faith Leaders: Special attention will be given to women and Indigenous leaders, raising their visibility and recognising their important contributions to spiritual and community life.
Fostering Understanding and Social Cohesion: Through photography and storytelling, Sacred Victoria will challenge stereotypes, promote interfaith understanding, and counter prejudice, including anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of religious discrimination.
Artistic Innovation: The project will combine documentary and portrait photography to produce a cohesive visual narrative that is both aesthetically compelling and socially impactful, suitable for exhibitions, publications, and digital platforms.
